Benefits of domestic solar
energy systems
All nations of the world depend
on fossil fuels for their energy
needs. However the obligation
to reduce CO2 and other gaseous
emissions in order to be in
conformity with the Kyoto agreement
is the reason behind which countries
turn to non-polluting renewable
energy sources. By using solar
energy, considerable amounts
of greenhouse polluting gasses
are avoided. For the case of
a domestic water heating system,
the saving, compared to a conventional
system, is about 80% with electricity
or Diesel backup and is about
75% with both electricity and
Diesel backup. It should be
noted that much greater quantities
of pollutant gasses are avoided
with the use of solar energy
systems. Additionally, these
systems give positive and very
promising financial characteristics.
With respect to life cycle assessment
of the systems, the energy spent
for manufacture and installation
of the solar systems is recouped
in about 1.2 years, whereas
the payback time with respect
to emissions produced from the
embodied energy required for
the manufacture and installation
of the systems varies from a
few months to 9.5 years according
to the fuel and the particular
pollutant considered. It can,
therefore, be concluded that
solar energy systems offer significant
protection to the environment
and should be employed whenever
possible in order to achieve
a sustainable future.
The benefits of solar power
systems are boundless and limitless.
It is almost as infinite as
the energy of the sun itself.
Tapping into the rays of the
sun has become one of the popular
alternative sources of energy
today especially when the whole
world is worried about global
warming and the ever increasing
costs of fossil fuel. |

There are two primary types of residential
solar power systems. It is the stand-alone
system and the grid-tie system. In the
stand-alone system, it is not connected
to the electric grid. With the grid-tie
system, the power grids are connected
to the electric grids. The grid-tie
system is expensive compared to the
stand-alone system.
One of the great benefits of this type
of energy-producing system is that one
can save on electric bills. Records
show that you can save as much as 80
percent of your current bills. There
is even a chance that your system will
yield excess power, most especially
when the weather is right. If you have
the grid-tie system, you might be able
to sell that excess to the electricity
providers through net metering.
The most important benefit of solar
power is the contribution you make in
lessening pollution. Your home is no
longer dependent on outside source of
electricity therefore, there is slightly
a lesser demand for electricity that
comes from fossil fuels like the ones
produced by electric companies. Your
contribution may appear to be too insignificant,
but your example will certainly open
the eyes of your neighbours and friends.
They will be able to see the sensibility
of tapping on the sun for energy. |
